School twinnings Tangier
& Occitanie
Since its launch in May 2019, Face à la mer has established itself over the past seven years as the leading network of photographers in the Mediterranean and Africa.
Face à la mer features a mobile, educational component operating between Morocco and France. The Carcassonne branch serves as the association's second strategic and operational hub, acting as a genuine cultural and solidarity-based bridge between the two shores.
Part of European and international cultural cooperation programs in the Mediterranean, this initiative places knowledge sharing and media literacy at the heart of civic and educational engagement.
2025 School Exchanges, Carcassonne
Target audience: School groups from the city of Carcassonne and the Lycée Français International. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
The project invited students to reflect deeply and sensitively on otherness, identity, and living together. By exploring what brings them together or sets them apart, students are encouraged to deconstruct their apprehension of the unknown and instead value common ground and the richness of their differences.
Using photography as a medium, each student was invited to take a unique look at their immediate surroundings by responding to the prompt: “Who is my neighbor?”
This “neighbor” is defined broadly: a classmate, someone sitting nearby in the cafeteria, a fellow bus passenger, or a familiar face from their shared daily life.
Each photograph is accompanied by a written or oral narrative in which the student explains their artistic intent, the context of the shot, and the unique connection they share with the subject.
The aim was to open children’s minds to the things that bring us together when facing the unknown.
2026 School Exchanges, Trèbes
Participants: Trèbes school group and Lycée Français International. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
The Project: “L’Odyssée Moderne” (The Modern Odyssey) sought to foster a sense of agency by encouraging students to envision themselves as active participants in shaping their own futures. Through written and visual expression, each participant articulated a personal commitment in response to the challenges facing the world by 2040.
These contributions were then gathered and sealed within a time capsule, thereby embodying the symbolic and enduring significance of their initiative.
This workshop addresses the need to actively involve younger generations in forward-looking discussions about the society of tomorrow, stimulating their critical thinking, creativity, and sense of civic responsibility.
